Pianist Mei-Ting Sun performs a Chopin series in Nyack
The 29-year-old pianist, winner of the National Chopin Piano Competition, is performing an eight-concert series in Nyack, N.Y., to mark the 200th anniversary of Chopin's birth. It's sponsored by the Soiree Society of the Arts, led by Mahwah resident Yashar Yaslowitz.
THE ARTIST'S ROOTS: Sun can't remember what led him to music. He knows the story: "When my dad play[ed] classical music I would get very excited, and when he would play piano music I would get very quiet." Originally from Shanghai, he began playing piano at 3 years old and performing at 5. At 9, he moved to New York to study at the Mannes College of Music.
